Sikkim - Darjeeling Darjeeling: Known as the “Queen of hills”, Darjeeling is a town of West Bengal state. This is one of the prettiest hill stations in the North part of the state. Surrounded by Kanchenjunga range, Darjeeling is famous of narrow gauge toy train, tea gardens and a wide range of variety of flowers. Developed and maintained by British govt at one time, this town has some of the best layouts. Named after an army Captain, Harbhajan Singh, He died near the Nathula Pass in eastern Sikkim, India. Two shrines have been built to show reverence to Baba Harbhajan Singh. It is believed that Baba Harbhajan Singh guards the international boundary between India and China, over the last three decades and he is accomplishing this task alone. Even the Chinese army also confirms that they have noticed a human figure, guarding the border at night, riding on a horse. It is also said that Baba Harbhajan Singh foretells any dangerous activity on the border through the dreams of the fellow army men and safeguards the force.
Tso Mgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a glacial lake in Sikkim. Of legendary beauty, the lake looks different at different seasons. In winter the placid lake remains frozen with the area around it covered in snow while in late spring the profusion of flowers in bloom adds a riot of colors around the lake.
Singshore Bridge, with a height of over 100 m and 240 m in length, is the highest bridge in Sikkim and the second highest bridge in Asia. It is truly a man-made marvel that offers the spectacular base view of immense greenery that makes it difficult to distinguish between the lowlands and the mountains.
The Yumthang Valley or Valley of Flowers sanctuary, is a nature sanctuary with the river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. It is popularly known as 'Valley of Flowers'[5] and is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which has over twenty-four species of the rhododendron, the state flower.
Nathu La is one of the three open trading border posts between China and India. The fenced Indo-China border is also few meters away and you can see both Indian and Chinese soldiers guarding the border. If you look at the eastern horizon, you can see the magnificent peak of Chomolhari of Bhutan.
The literal meaning of Enchey Monastery i.e ‘the solitary temple’, this sacred Buddhist pilgrim is the mystical wonderland surrounded with splendid natural beauty. It is believed that Lama Druptob Karpo; a renowned tantric blessed with flying powers, flew from Maenam Hill and constructed a hermitage at this mesmerizing location.
Char Dham is a huge pilgrimage cum cultural complex developed by the Sikkim Government.T he place is well managed by the Govt. of Sikkim. The place has 108ft. tall statue of lord Shiv & replicas of 12 Jyotirlingas.You will find rooms to stay as well as mess/restaurant with nice Satwik food.
Tashi View Point is one of the major attractions The place is a must visit for nature lovers as it offers great views of the imposing Himalayan mountains, specifically Mount Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu. Also, you can enjoy spectacular views of Labrang Monastery and Phodong Monastery, which are located near the view point.
Sikkim has an ancient connection with Buddhism. The mountain state is dotted with various monasteries and relics of the faith. On the birth anniversary of Lord Gautama Buddha in 2006, the Sikkim state government took decision to celebrate the birth anniversary throughout the year in Sikkim. And as a part of the festivity, Ravangla was chosen to construct and install a large statue of Lord Buddha and eco-garden to memorialize the event. The Buddha Park Ravangla Sikkim is an important landmark in Sikkim’s unique effort to promote pilgrimage tourism.
Gurudongmar is one of the highest lakes in the world. It lies in the North side of the Khangchengyao Range and is encircled all around by snow-covered mountains, The blessed water of the lake is believed to posses the miraculous power of granting children to issueless couples. Interestingly, the myth of Gurudongmar is believed as reverentially by the Hindus as by the local Buddhists.
Caving is a somewhat quirky adventure activity that involves discovering cave systems – the more virgin (and the wilder!), the better. It's sometimes known as spelunking (in the USA) and potholing (in the UK and Ireland).
